On Sunday 19th February I had the pleasure of photographing an awesome band known as Sons of Mark. Beautifully named after their late father, the duo formed of two brothers teamed up with another pair of musicians.

Rebecca Waller an incredibly talented violinist known for gracing the stages and dance floors of clubs all over.

And Djinh Kamei, a multi-disciplined and gifted musician who completed the ensemble on keys.

Pre-Gig Photography

Prior to the doors opening, I spent time with the brothers, Glen and Owen (Sons of Mark), Daniel Appleton, Rebecca and Djinh. Capturing them setting up, discussing the event, the cause and more.

Watching them conduct sound checks allowed me to spend time getting to know the venue. With this acquired knowledge in mind I could capture the live show to the best of my ability.

The Sons of Mark Norwich Playhouse Gig

The gig itself was held at Norwich Playhouse Theatre not too far from the City Centre. Despite the venue holding upwards of 250 guests on the night, it maintained that highly sought after intimate feel.

Supporting Sons of Mark on the night were Gee Strings Acoustic Duo. A male and female combo adding a creative twist to recognisable covers. To finish off their set we were blessed with the sound of one of their new originals.

Norwich event in aid of Kayla’s Campaign

There’s no excuse needed to come together as one and enjoy live music. However the cause for this gig is one close to many people’s hearts. The money raised through ticket and march sales on the night and also donations went to support the Kayla Neuroblastoma Campaign.

Kayla is a wonderful four year old from Norwich currently battling a rare form of cancer found in children. Kayla’s mum was present on the night and took to the stage to tell of her daughter’s story.

You can read more about Kayla’s story and donate by clicking here. Her parents Stacey and Wayne are pulling out all the stops to get their girl the best treatment possible. A huge thank you was extended on the night from Stacey herself and on behalf of Kayla, Wayne and the family.

Not only to the bands Sons of Mark and Gee String Acoustic Duo, but also to Danny Moloney. Another key figure in the support and fundraising for Kayla’s Campaign.

The Event Photos & Video

Throughout the night I was given free reign to join all musicians on the stage. I cannot thank Daniel Appleton (Band Manager), and the lads enough for making this happen.

As you can see from the pics I was able to cover all angles. At the end of the night I switched the camera over to video mode an put my gig videography skills to the test.

In the space of just three songs I could capture enough footage to put together this video. Highlighting all of the performers from the Sons of Mark set in a single montage backed by their song Till The End.
